01 — OVERVIEW

Game Description

2PONG is a simple Pong-inspired game and the very first game I ever made. The main idea was to recreate the classic Pong experience while adding a few extra features of my own, such as player score tracking and different paddle skins.

The project was mainly about learning the basics of game development and getting comfortable with Unity and C#. It is a very simple game compared to my later projects, but it was the starting point that made me want to keep making games.

Development Process

01

First Steps and Core Mechanics

As it was my first ever game, I first tried to become familiar with the Unity Engine UI and its features. After that, I started implementing the core features, such as the paddles, the ball, and the walls.

02

Gameplay Cycle

After I had the assets finished, I worked on the gameplay cycle. I decided to stick with the classic best-of-3 win condition and made the game return to the menu after the match was finished.

03

Side Mechanics & Polishing

After the core gameplay cycle was up and running, I decided to add some extra features, such as player skins and names, score tracking, SFX, and music. These additions made the game feel much more alive. Then, it was time to polish everything, including the code, project organization, player controller, and UI.

04

Testing and Final Result

Thankfully, the testing phase was not stressful at all. Since Pong is such a simple game, testing everything I needed was fairly straightforward. Soon after, I had the final result and the finished build.

Dev Comments

2PONG was where everything started for me. At the time, even making a paddle move correctly or getting the ball to bounce the way I wanted felt like a big achievement. It was a very simple project, but it was also the first time I got to see something I made actually work as a game.

Looking back at it now, there is obviously a lot I would do differently, but I think that is part of what makes this project special to me. It was my first step into game development, and without this little Pong clone, I probably wouldn't have ended up making the games that came after it.
